The family and I went to the Plano Balloon Festival this evening. Was a very good time, but a little bit of a rip-off. I expected the food to be on the expensive side, but after having to park almost 2 miles away (and paying for the privledge), paying to get in, and the finding that the “bounce house” and slides for the kids were not included in the admission price, I was a little disappointed. I guess fifty bucks just doesn’t go as far as it used to. Click the baloon on the right for pictures.
Ah, it’s finally starting to happen, people are using the new capabilities of Flash 6 (aka Flash MX) to create WYSIWYG text/HTML editors that are cross platform. Some nice looking work, too; the one by Stuart Schoneveld is particularly slick.
So while we were sleeping, Apple Expo Paris was going on, and among not announcing much of anything new, Mr. Jobs did let loose iCal, said all new Macs would boot OS X only in January 2003, and announced wider industry support for rendezvous. Unfortunately, iSync isn’t out yet (but is supposed to be by the end of the month).
Now all I need to do is get a WebDAV server running on my Linux box… or maybe I’ll fire up Apache on Matthew’s iMac DV.
Apple has released their new round of switch ads. Say what you will, this is a pretty effective advertising campaign. What I find particularly interesting is how you can tell it’s an apple ad even if the sound is down and before you see the logo. One thing Apple does a great job of is consistency in their branding and marketing efforts. Not only do their products and software all work seamlessly together, but their presentation is uniform as well. And seeing by the number of parodies of the ads that have popped up all over the web, I’d say it struck a nerve. Viral advertising at it’s best…
I did find it funny that they left the Ellen ad on the page of new ones… speaking of which, have you seen this version? Oops, looks like the link is broken… (via ellenfeiss.net)
OK, so it’s about time I got this thing back on the air. It’s been right at a year since I actually got much done on the new design, and after 12 months of Cynthia hammering on me, I’ve finally decided to put the new design up, no matter how ugly or unfunctional I think it is. Better to start there and make incremental changes than to wait for the perfect design to “happen.”
